Recently renewed research (archaeological excavations (Bgazhba and others, 2012, p. 268-270), field studies (1)) in a former monastery complex in the village of Aga-Bedia (Tkuarchal borough PA) raise a number of questions and make systematize available information on its history. In particular, there is a need to classify the reliefs that decorated the cathedral monastery outside and inside. This is impossible without a retrospective analysis of the history of the study of the buildings of the complex.

4-6 in June 2010. a group of Russian and Abkhazian archaeologists conducted an archaeological tour of the archaeological sites of the upper Kodori Gorge. As we know, this area until the summer of 2008, controlled by the Georgian leadership, has been transformed into a kind of a military base, threatening the Republic of Abkhazia. For obvious reasons, this region of Abkhazia in those years was closed for both Russian and Abkhazian researchers. Nevertheless, there is information that not later than 2008 there was the expedition of so-called Sukhumi University "in exile", although, information about its achievements are absent.

In recent years, the geopolitical importance of the South Caucasus increased significantly. This region was the focus of attention not only to immediate neighbors - Russia, Iran and Turkey, but also extra-regional players - the EU, U.S., Middle East and China, which is due to several factors. Through the Caucasus are the main routes of transportation of Caspian energy resources, which are also an important resource for the world economy, and the subject of geopolitical rivalry. The organic link of Northern and Southern Caucasus makes the latter a zone of vital interests of Russia – it is because of the Caucasus security of Russia looks vulnerable and meets lots of serious challenges. Its proximity to Iran raises the importance of the Caucasus in the eyes of the West and especially the U.S., for which the confrontation with Iran has become one of the key issues of foreign political strategy. Owing to strengthening the positions of Russia on the world stage for the U.S. is becoming a very topical issue of minimizing the effects of Russia in South Caucasus and Central Asia.
